Reimagining the traditional Punjabi folk legend of Puran Bhagat, Batalvi radically shifts the narrative perspective away from the heroic male prince to focus on Loona—a young, lower-caste girl forced to marry the much older King Salvaan. In the original folklore, Loona is portrayed as an immoral, vengeful stepmother who falsely accuses Puran when he rejects her advances.
